30 Day Disney Challenge
(I am so behind on this)
Day 19: Your favorite Pixar film
(May contain spoilers)
I love this movie. Absolutely love it. I loved the animation, I loved the characters, I loved the story, I loved everything. I went to see it with my parents in theatres shortly after it came out, and at one point they couldn’t reach into the popcorn bucket because I was holding it so tightly. This movie is pure magic. There were quite a few things that stood out to me in this movie. First, the scenery. My God, the scenery. I remember watching Merida riding through the woods, or climbing the rock and it just took my breath away. Second, the wisps. I have always loved Will-O’ the Wisps, and the fact that they were included in this movie (and quite creatively, too) made me super happy. I loved their design, too. Finally, the story. I liked how they made the main focus of the movie the mother-daughter relationship. And they didn’t make it negative either. Elinor wasn’t some evil queen who wanted to send her daughter away, she was a kind, yet no-nonsense, loving mother who genuinely loved her children, but at the same time knew that her duty was to her kingdom. She didn’t like seeing Merida upset, but she knew that the kingdom would be forced into war if Elinor didn’t promise her daughter to one of the clans. I also liked how it was a mother-daughter relationship, which I feel there needs to be more of. Many Disney/Pixar movies seem to contain more relationships with the father than the mother; The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, etc. Brave was a refreshing change of pace to the norm, with the mother-daughter relationship, and the fact that there was no love interest. (After we saw it, my mother said for a while she thought that Mor’du would become a human after the spell was broken and wind up marrying Merida, which may have been interesting, but I much prefer it the way it is.) Brave is definitely my favorite Pixar movie, and as soon as it comes out on DVD, I plan on watching it so many times the disc wears out.
